Employment Opportunity: Cook-Steward Agency: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Job Announcement Number: SWGL155292131310381D SALARY RANGE: $23.92 to $27.92 / Per Hour OPEN PERIOD: January 26 - February 9, 2015 SERIES & GRADE: XH-7404-06 POSITION INFORMATION: Full Time - Permanent DUTY LOCATIONS: 1 vacancy in Memphis, TN WHO MAY APPLY: United States Citizens SECURITY CLEARANCE: Not Applicable SUPERVISORY STATUS: No About the Position: This position is located on the Dredge Hurley of the US Army Corps of Engineers, Navigation Section, Physical Support Branch, Operations Division, Memphis District, Memphis, TN. The duty location of this position will be wherever the Dredge Hurley is located. During the dredging season, typically May through November, all Hurley crew members, including this position, work a 15 days on - 6 days off schedule, with the work period beginning and ending on Wednesdays. On the 15 work days, employees remain on the Dredge Hurley and are provided meals and lodging. This position works a 12 hour shift, and may rotate between day and night shifts. During the non-dredging season, the crew works day shift only, with the vessel based at Ensley Engineer Yard, Memphis, TN, on either a 5-day 8-hour, or 4-day 10-hr schedule. During the dredging season, the Dredge Hurley will work in widespread locations in the Mississippi River, including up to 90 days in the vicinity of Baton Rouge, LA. TRAVEL REQUIRED: Occasional Travel. Business Travel (TDY) may be 10% RELOCATION AUTHORIZED: No. KEY REQUIREMENT Must pass a pre-employment drug test. Must pass a pre-employment medical examination. Must be willing to work shift work. Must be willing to travel in widespread locations on the Mississippi River. DUTIES: In direct charge of the galley and mess hall and is responsible for the preparation and serving of meals for a large crew in accordance with standard operating procedures. Personally participates in and supervises a crew of cooks and mess attendants in cooking, preparing, and serving meals including meats, fish, soups, poultry, vegetables, fruits, salads, breads, cakes, and desserts; and storage of commodities. In addition, supervises subordinates in cleaning the galley, dining areas, and crew quarters. Position must also accomplish the following administrative functions using appropriate computer programs and systems (i.e. CEFMS, DCPDS, ATMP): file management (electronic and paper), mail routing, vehicle dispatch and maintenance, time and attendance, travel, purchasing (including IMPAC VISA cardholder responsibilities), reports, payment of financial billings, and office automation for general office operation and labor relations compliance. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Screen Out Element: Ability to manage a crew of employees within the parameters of the regulations; plan menus that are dietetically proper and select menus which encompass some special requirements, (i.e., diabetic; low salt, etc.; plan for and prepare a wide variety of foods for 30 to 60 persons; operate and maintain all galley equipment. Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in the galley where there is constant exposure to above average temperatures. Subject to cuts when working with power equipment or to burns when working near the range.
