S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District, Operations Division, Physical Support Branch, Navigation Section, Motor Vessel Dredge Hurley, Memphis, TN 38103. Duty location is wherever the Dredge Hurley is located. During the dredging season, typically May through November, all Hurley crew members, including this position, work a 15 days on - 6 days off schedule, with the work period beginning and ending on Wednesdays. On the 15 work days employees remain on the Dredge Hurley and are provided meals and lodging. This position works a 12 hour shift, and may rotate between day and night shifts. During the non-dredging season, the crew works day shift only, with the vessel based at Ensley Engineer Yard, Memphis, TN, on either a 5-day 8-hour, or 4-day 10-hr schedule. During the dredging season, the Dredge Hurley will work in widespread locations in the Mississippi River, including 60-90 days in the vicinity of Baton Rouge, LA. TRAVEL REQUIRED: Occasional Travel. Temporary Duty Travel is about 10% of the time RELOCATION AUTHORIZED: No KEY REQUIREMENTS Must pass drug test Must pass pre-employment physical Shift work is required Must meet license requirements DUTIES: Performs the full range of maintenance, repair and installation services in connection with industrial, electronic, electrical-electronic electro-hydraulic and electro-mechanical controls as contained on various equipment and systems. Performs preventive maintenance on all equipment to which assigned. Identifies weak spots and potential trouble areas and repairs or replaces components to avoid possible future failure. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs the systems and components. Uses testing equipment such as transistor tester, oscilloscope, synchroscope, volt-ohm meter, system diagnostic software and sophisticated diagnostic instruments, to test and check electronic components and systems to locate and replace components down to the replaceable part level. During the non-construction season incumbent may be subject to assignment on other phases of productive work. Screen Out Element: Ability to do the work of a Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet this screen out element to be considered further. Applicants should document experience in work that involves performing a full range of duties in assembly, installation, repair, use of test equipment, theory of electronics, ability to use hand and power tools-electronic, troubleshooting, and ability to suggest and apply new methods. K,S,A,Cs: • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repairs, etc. • Use of Test Equipment Electronics • Theory of Electronics Physical effort: Incumbent performs work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms and where the parts, equipment, or systems are in hard-to-reach places. Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in a tiring and uncomfortable position. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed inside in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Occasionally, work may be performed outside subject to extremes of weather. When equipment is fixed in place, it is sometimes necessary to work in warehouse or industrial areas exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. Incumbent is constantly exposed to the possibility of electrocution while working on AC and DC electrical systems. Incumbent is also exposed to drowning while working on the boat. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of burns or engine crankcase explosion while working near engines and generators and less serious cuts and bruises.
