Employment Opportunity: Senior Crown Counsel I Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the post of Senior Crown Counsel I, Ministry of Legal Affairs, Antigua and Barbuda. Post: Senior Crown Counsel I (Civil) Grade: B Misc Qualifications (minimum): Bachelor of Laws Degree (L.L.B.) Legal Education Certificate (L.E.C.) The Officer should have a minimum of at least seven (7) years in active civil practice. Remuneration: The Government will pay the Officer’s salary and allowances at the following rates: Basic Salary: $7,944.00 per month Travelling Allowance: $ 646.00 per month Housing Allowance $1,500.00 per month Duty Allowance $1,200.00 per month In Lieu of Private Practice $3,000.00 per month Duties/Responsibilities • To head the litigation team and provide leadership to the other Crown Counsel; • To lend quality support to the Attorney General on serious and sensitive matters; • To assist the Solicitor General in the giving of legal advice and legal opinions to the Government and its various Ministries or Departments, on various matters including the interpretation and application of statutes. • To advise the Government on the interpretation, adoption and implementation of international treaties and conventions. • To appear as Lead legal counsel in civil litigation filed by or against the Government or any of its Ministries or Departments. • To draft pleadings, conduct necessary legal research and advise the Attorney General on civil litigation matters involving the Government. • To instruct, supervise and manage Crown Counsel on the conduct of civil litigation and, from time to time, organize in-house conferences, on legal issues arising out of threatened or pending litigation. • To represent the Ministry of Legal Affairs at departmental meetings, conferences, board meetings, workshops etc., at the request of the Attorney General. • To advise the Attorney General on or to provide legal services in respect of any matter that he may refer to the Officer, and perform other related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Attorney General or the Solicitor General. Hours of Work:1) Mondays to Thursdays 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 2) Notwithstanding (1) above, the nature of the duties will require the Officer to perform work outside of the hours mentioned above, in addition to Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays when necessary.
