We are an affiliate of the Girls Incorporated national organization, the nation’s leading voice for girls. Our programs for girls focus on life skills, workforce development, and college readiness. POSITION INFORMATION Position Title: Assistant Director of Development Supervisor: Vice President of Development, Full-time -Exempt Purpose of Position: The Assistant Director of Development, in coordination with the Vice President of Development, coordinates and manages individual donor programs and strategies for Girls Incorporated of Orange County’s donors. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Scope of Work: The Assistant Director of Development will be successful, when the following outcomes have been achieved: 1. Development a. Cultivates and solicits donors to raise funds for Girls Inc. programs to meet the organization’s overall fundraising goals. b. Together with the Vice President of Development, establishes annual and monthly visit and financial performance goals (number of proposals submitted and solicitations closed) and is accountable for and evaluated based on these goals. c. Manages a portfolio of prospects. Responsible for setting strategy, cultivating, and closing gifts within the assigned portfolio. d. Moves potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and gift closure. e. Identifies and recruits other solicitors as needed (staff or volunteer) to successfully close gifts. f. Responsible for the creation and execution of an annual, individual giving program for donors contributing $25,000 and less. g. Qualifies new and existing donors for Girls Inc. of Orange County’s individual giving program. h. In partnership with the Vice President of Development and Assistant Director of Development Communication and Events, the Assistant Director of Development is responsible for handling logistics for Girls Inc. of Orange County’s annual fund appeal that will be sent to an identified prospect pool two times per year. i. Cultivates and maintains relationships with donors and volunteers. Identifies strategies for cultivation and solicitation. Reports on prospect contact in Girls Inc.’s database and participates in regular prospect management meetings. Provides stewardship to donors. j. Prepares cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship materials for prospects and donors—including event briefings, informational tours, strategy memos, background information, talking points, acknowledgment letters, funding proposals, etc. k. Identifies new prospects from within the community and creates and implements cultivation and solicitation strategies. l. Participates in strategic planning for the Girls Inc. of Orange County’s development program. m. Collaborates closely with co-workers in programs and volunteers to support their efforts and to ensure a smooth pipeline for donors. n. Supports colleagues in their projects as required and performs other related duties as assigned. o. Attends after hour events and participates in travel throughout Orange County. 2.Event Management a. Responsible for all sponsorship opportunities relating to Girls Inc. of Orange County’s Annual Event, My Bold Future. b. In partnership with the development team, creates the target sponsor list on an annual basis. In partnership with the Vice President of Development, the Assistant Director of Development evaluates and implements sponsorship levels for the annual event. c. Develops sponsorship packages to be mailed to potential sponsors. d. Creates a follow up strategy for sponsorship outreach that includes staff, board members, and volunteers and is strategically based on the organization’s relationship with the potential sponsor. e. Develops sponsorship recognition opportunities and gifts for Girls Inc. of Orange County’s annual event. f. Maintains a database of potential invitees to invite to Women’s Speaker Series and other Girls Inc. point-of-entry events. Helps team strategize on potential speakers and underwriters for signature Girls Inc. of Orange County events. g. Assists the development team, as appropriate, with all Girls Inc. of Orange County’s events. 3.Volunteer Management a. Works with volunteers to solicit their support while also enlisting their help in the identification and cultivation of prospects. b. Serves as a liaison with Girls Inc. of Orange County’s Girls Inc. Guild. Prepares and coordinates membership renewal appeal on an annual basis. Develops a pipeline of potential major gift prospects through Girls Inc. Guild member relationships. c. Collaborates with other volunteer groups, including Women for Girls, as needed to develop a strong pipeline for Girls Inc.’s giving programs. QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s degree. • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience at a nonprofit organization or professional office environment with demonstrated experience in identifying, initiating, nurturing, and maintaining relationships with individual donors and prospects. Knowledge of the principals of fundraising, including the ability to participate in all aspects of the gifts cycle: Initiating contact Strategy development that includes involvement with the Vice President of Development, CEO, and board volunteers Moving potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation Making solicitations Stewarding donors and cultivating new gifts • Excellent oral, written, financial, and communication skills. Strength in editing skills, including the ability to prepare and proofread clear, concise, and grammatically correct written materials. • Proficiency in computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database software, etc.). • Strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills. • Attention to accuracy and detail. • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask. • Must possess a collaborative, team-oriented work style with the ability to work independently. • Ability to work well under pressure and within tight and sometimes competing deadlines. • A commitment to high professional ethical standards in a diverse work environment. • Must clear background check, have reliable transportation with insurance, and a valid driver’s license. • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, if needed. • Ability to stand for three hours at one time.
