Emptied of Self To close the gap between what I am and what God - TopicsExpress

Emptied of Self To close the gap between what I am and what God wants of me, I must empty myself and let Jesus come in and take over. I have prayed to understand his agenda for me. ... It is unsettling to pray to be emptied of self; it seems a challenge almost beyond our reach as humans. But if we try, I have learned, God does most of the work. I must simply let myself go in love and trust of the Lord. Submit to God It has been said that "the battle of Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton." Had there been no soccer-field discipline, there could have been very different results. The schoolboy playing for his school learns that [his] will must be subservient at all times to the will of his captain. He plays to give all that he has for the glory of his side, not just to win a name for himself. [Similarly,] the battle of the Cross was won on the praying field of Gethsemane. His will was assailed at every point. "His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground." In his Gethsemane struggle the Lord Jesus teaches us two important things: "submit to God" and "resist the devil." Luke 22:44 (KJV) 44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. 2 Timothy 2:2-4 (KJV) 2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. 3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
