Encourage The Reluctant reader. “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” ~Joseph Addison Reading is a skill that is necessary to succeed in life. Without good reading skills, children are unprepared for the future. As parents, we can help our children develop good reading skills by being supportive and attentive. If your child does not show an interest in reading and you have eliminated the possibility of a learning disorder, there are a few tricks you can do to help your reluctant reader. Please these tips or tricks cuts across every age level. 1) Buy books that your child would enjoy to read, not you. The idea is to get him/her interested in reading. Let your child read something fun and interesting. You can ask them what books are, or would be of interest to them. 2) If your child is a reluctant reader because he/she is having difficulty with reading, then buy books that are easy for your child to read, but will keep their interest. As your child gets more comfortable, get them more challenging books. 3) Use audio books to encourage and support auditory skills. 4) Tell stories to your child using your child as the main character. 5) Buy books in which your child has seen the movie and let your child read the book in sections. For reading comprehension, ask your child what differences there are between the book and the movie. Building a nation is no joke, God is your muscle. Enjoy the Easter Holidays and make it meaningful for your children.
