Encourage Yourself In The Lord 1 Samuel 30:6 And David was - TopicsExpress

Encourage Yourself In The Lord 1 Samuel 30:6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. In this passage of Scripture we see that David had become discouraged because his men spoke of stoning him. David had allied himself with the Philistines and they were on their way to battle with Israel. Some of the commanders of the Philistine army didnt like the idea of David and his men fighting with them for fear David and his people would turn on them and take sides with the Israelites. So the king of the Philistines told David of the concerns of his Soldiers and told them to go back to their camp. As they were coming back the Amalekites had come in and destroyed the camp and took everything and everyone to include their women and children captive. So when David and his men returned and saw what happened they were very mad and they wanted to kill David because they blamed him for what happened. There are times when things are not going well in life and we become discouraged. This may come because we have lost a job or a loved one or something as simple as a business or ministry is not growing as fast as we would like. This is when we have to look to God for encouragement. After Job lost everything he had he said the following in Job 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him. Job had to encourage himself knowing that even if God were to decide to take his life he would still trust God. Job had lost everything except his wife and his life and he still mustered up enough strength to encourage himself. We have to admit that many of us would be very discouraged a day want to just give up if what happened to Job happened to us; but we have to be like Job and encourage ourselves in the Lord. Sometimes as the people of God we have to encourage ourselves. The Bible tells us in Judges 20:22 And the people the men of Israel encouraged themselves, and set their battle again in array in the place where they put themselves in array the first day. As we read this Scripture we see that the Israelites had to encourage themselves. Just prior to this they had gone into battle with their brethren the Benjaminites and had been beaten by them and they lost several thousand men. This was very discouraging for the Israelites; though it is not spoken I believe they had to encourage themselves in the Lord because after this they went to the Lord on two occasions to ask if they should go back and fight against the brothers again and twice God told them to go. The second time they lost several thousand men again but the third time God gave them the victory. There are times when we will encourage ourselves and still not have the outcome we would like to have nevertheless we have to continue to seek the face of God for encouragement. If you are going through something I encourage you to find encouragement in the Lord and continue to seek God for answers and I know that in the end you will be blessed. May the God of peace and the peace and love of God be with you always!
