End of 1981 - We left that house in Santa Ana. It broke my heart. Richard Provenger lived up the road and let me walk his dog Rusty twice a week on my rollerskates and even gave me a quarter for it! My mom Robertas Cakes friend Darlene Wagner lived across the street and we would all go to the beach together a lot. Clay and Lamont were brothers, and they lived across the street as well. Clay would go to church with us sometimes, and Lamont used to take me to Roller Ranch to go skating with him! Yall kids missed out on a great era. But I digress. We moved to 11651 Wasco Rd in Garden Grove, Ca. That year, there was a fresh wave of music coming through. There was Rick Springfield, Kool and the Gang, Air Supply (they would become another great influence on a teen aged me, but thats another story), The Oak Ridge Boys would sing a song called Elvira that would haunt me some 33 yrs later (Lori Smith Lipscomb just laughed)...but I got hit by another musical thinderbolt! A song with funk and groove that had the strangest kinda backward talking parts I had ever heard! Again, I would turn up my moms stereo when she wasnt home and the song came on! That new funk was by Frankie Smith, and its the only song I ever heard from him. It was called..... youtu.be/0kE6ZU-OPTc
