Engaging with school children is part of the activities that the Royal Thai Embassy undertakes to help expand knowledge about Thailand as well as of the world more broadly. On 17 December 2014, the Royal Thai Embassy visited H.D. Cooke Elementary School, Washington, D.C. to teach a class of 23 fifth graders about Thailand. The visit gave the students an opportunity to learn about Thailand, its geography as well as Thai language and culture through a presentation. Afterwards, they participated in a questions and answers session about Thailand and got a treat of a Thai snack. Each of the students also received “Thailand at the Glance,” a fact book about Thailand, and “How the Eagle & the Elephant Became Friends,” a picture book narrating the long-standing relations between Thailand and the United States. Representatives from District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) and Washington Performing Arts also joined in these activities. H.D. Cooke Elementary School is adopted by the Royal Thai Embassy under the Embassy Adoption Program for 2014 – 2015. The Embassy will organize a series of activities year-round with the class to teach them about Thailand and the close ties between Thailand and the United States. In addition, the Embassy welcomes occasional visits by groups of students, accompanied by their teachers and parents at its home in Georgetown. thaiembdc.org/dcdp/?q=node/818
