Engineered for success! University of Tasmania engineering students Lauren Ward & Sam Volker have both recently been awarded scholarships. A love of music and the desire to improve digital hearing aid technology and hearing tests has led to University of Tasmania engineering student Lauren Ward being awarded the 2015 BHP Billiton John Monash Scholarship. The John Monash Scholarships, which are some of Australia’s most prestigious awards recognising potential leaders in their respective fields, was announced at a special function at the Sydney Opera House last night. Sam Volker is the inaugural winner of the Jock Chudacek John Holland Scholarship. Sam enters his third year of a Bachelor of Engineering in 2015, majoring in civil engineering. Engineering has been a part of my family going back a few generations. My grandfather came out to Australia from the Netherlands to work on the Yarra River dredging and went on to run a mine in Scottsdale, Sam said. Civil engineering is attractive to me because you can see the results of your work. What you do has a long and practical impact on a place and Im keen to play a part in that here in Tasmania.
