England win on penalties to re-take the EvS Trophy in a dramatic finale. England Central Midfielder Steven Powell opened the scoring from an in-direct free kick in the first half, perfectly placing the ball into the top right corner from close range. Scotlands flow did not look like it was going to ebb away with superb performances from the Scottish all over the park, especially from Ronan Kelly and Captain Johnny Parr. HT 1-0 England The second half started as the first had finished, with the Tarten Army on top. England Captain Bradley Scott was having to use all of his experience to contain Scotlands Jonny Chalk with both having an excellent battle. Midway through the second half Scotland scored a thoroughly deserved goal with Stuart Smith getting on the end of Johnny Parr assist from close range. Shortly afterwards, with the scores now level, Englands Tony Pickup was sent off for a second bookable offense with 20 minutes to go. England Manager Keith Young made a tactical change replacing Jamie Hughes with Niall Keogh. Despite going down to 10 men with Hughes being desperately unlucky to leave the field, Keogh had an immediate impact for England shoring up the defense. The game went all the way to wire with the English battling hard to keep the score at 1-1 with the game going straight to penalties. With English 18 year old Goalkeeper Rudy Halford and Ally Turpie in the nets for Scotland, both having saved a penalty each along with a Scotland miss, Niall Keogh stepped up to the plate scoring the final goal of the game to win the battle for the English. An excellent spectacle and an excellent event created by the EvS Committee. EvS Chairman Graeme Pattison surprised everyone but himself with some superlative vocals late into the evening at the EnglandScotland Ball. Great night, great day.
