English lessons from Bruce Lee https://youtube/watch?v=sDW6vkuqGLg This is one of my favourite clips from the Bruce Lee Classic Enter the Dragon. I used it in my (upper intermediate / advanced) English class last night for three points that he makes. 1) We need emotional content - memory and emotion are strongly linked. When learning new vocabulary or phrases, try to connect them to your own experiences. This will trigger emotional responses which will make them easier to remember. 2) Dont talk...feel. Expanding on this idea - when practising, dont focus too much on mistakes or rules, sometimes it is better to simply trust your instincts and try to build a sense of what is correct or incorrect based on your past experience. In time it will be your best guide. 3) It is like a finger pointing to the moon... - your teacher, your books, and the rules you learn are all just a finger pointing to the moon. They show you which direction to face, but they are not your objective or destination. If you focus too much on the finger, you will miss all the heavenly glory!
