Engr Seyi Makinde Governorship Declaration speech analysis: 4. OPERATION HEAPS; PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTUREI will humbly request that you read the extract below more than once to grasp the import completely because I must confess that I cant do justice to this in one writeup; my imagination is stretched, I am motivated, I am very excited.Physical Infrastructural development is key to oiling the engine of governance. I will focus on the mix of hydro and micro electricity generation. We shall utilize the opportunities provided by the recent privatization of the GenCo’s to apply business solutions under a PPP arrangement on the completion of the Ikere Gorge Dam thereby adding about 700MW of electricity to the national grid. I have immense expertise in this area. I will work with the PDP government at the center to fast track this project. The idea is to provide stable electricity in all the nooks and crannies of Oyo State and by so doing create a stable industrial axis and stem rural urban migration. I will make land available to investors who want to partner with us to provide cheap and affordable houses to you. In addition we will provide incentives like tax holidays to companies who are ready to work with us to upgrade our infrastructures to a world class standard I have heard many speeches and promises from our politicians but this one truly sounds like that of job applicant; a servant that really wants to be engaged. I have immense expertise in this area that is, power generation. I have known Seyi Makinde for 8years and I know hes not boastful and hes very humble, for him to have described his expertise as immense in that area, then i should think of a bigger adjective. Ikere gorge dam in Oke-Ogun has stretched his mind as opportunity of power and employment generation and I know its as good as done. WE can see it, we shall get there. The rural link roads are to be opened up to make rural dwellers live urban lives and reduce rural-urban drifts. Many past leaders made same promises during their campaigns and I can remember how Dr. Adeduntan rubbished Sen Ajimobis idea of generating power from coal as obsolete and not environmental-friendly during the Splash FM governorship debate in 2011. Engr Seyi Makinde in the above statement has given the road to independent power generation with assurance of his expertise. Welcome to Igbaotun (New Era) of stable power supply in Oyo state. Also under physical infrastructure is the quality road networks, urban planning, affordable housing and recreation centers; exactly what Gov Donald Duke used to transform Cross-River state. No responsible leader should develop the infrastructure at the expense of the populace because the infrastructure is for the people and not otherwise. As much as the people might make sacrifices, the leader must lead and guide them in making such sacrifices. When a leader eradicates the poor instead of poverty, in the name of urbanization is nothing but cruelty. Ladies and gentlemen, great people of Oyo state, I welcome you to new era of urbanisation with human face, Seyi Makinde promises you rural roads and electrification that makes rural areas self-sufficient with low cost of living even in urban centers. Thinking about all these, I can only ask myself: what else would the people ask for other than performance of these stated promises. If we close our eyes and keep saying na lie, na lie we might just miss out when na true shows up big. Leadership Quote: Leaders dont wait. They shape their own frontiers. The bigger the challenge, the greater the opportunity.- Anonymous Omi Titun, IgbaOtun!!! SDP!. PROGRESS!!
