Enhancing Import & Export… New Seaport for Salone By Foday Jalloh Reporting that government has already secured the necessary funding, the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Balogun Koroma has said that Sierra Leone will soon have a brand new sea port worth in the region of three hundred million dollars ($300M). The proposed seaport is to be built in Pujehun district in the southern province under a multifaceted development pact between the Government of Sierra Leone and the Chinese multinational corporation, Kingho. The port will serve both as an iron ore exporting facility as well as one that handles other kinds of imports and exports. The new port is an indication of the huge growth potential the Sierra Leone economy holds as the Agenda for Prosperity is rolled out in the coming years. The hardworking Transport and Aviation minister, who shares President Koroma’s vision of transforming Sierra Leone into a middle level economy in the next twenty-five years, promises that he will do more to help place Sierra Leone where it rightly belongs and to march in step with other developing countries. On Line Salone the efficiency of departments and agencies under the supervision of his ministry, Balogun Koroma called on the airport management to do more in terms of security and transportation within the airport hub. He also called on the Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority (SLRTA) headed by Mrs. Sarah Bendu to do more to regulate traffic wardens and to educate them on their conduct when carrying out their duties. He furthermore called on the SLRTA to take better care of buses in terms of their maintenance. He deplored the number of buses parked at the SLRTA compound at Kissy that are in need of repairs. The need to repair them, he said, will go a long way in addressing the transportation problem in the city during rush hours. Minister Logus Koroma who was speaking at the weekly government press briefing at the Information Ministry called on the seven departments and agencies under the control of his ministry to work hard to raise the ministry’s flag high as one of the prime facilitators of the government’s Agenda for Change project.
