Enjoy a full day’s activities with our bee experts, Ronald & Mary Hunter, when you can learn all about beekeeping and the production of honey. The programme for the day includes: 10.00am Tea / coffee / biscuits on arrival Introduction to bees, life cycle, pollination, bee dance. Equipment required for bee-keeping, demo and hands on. 12.30pm Lunch - 3 course lunch in the Mary Beale Restaurant as follows: - Rabbit roulade, pickled beetroot, mustard seed dressing, cress salad - Barbary duck Honey roast breast, garlic fondant potato, glazed carrots - West Lodge Park honey parfait almond tuille and crème anglaise - Paddy and Scott’s coffee or Twinings loose-leaf tea with homemade chocolates - Served with artisan bread and un-salted butter 2.00pm Demo and hands on practical at the West Lodge Park beehives. Self guided tour of grounds to find trees visited by bees for nectar and pollen. Map provided. 3.00pm (approx) Tea / Coffee / Biscuits How to help honey bees and / or beginning beekeeping. Question and answer session. 4.00pm How to help honey bees and / or beginning beekeeping. Question and answer session. 4pm finish. We will provide you with an information pack, and a jar of West Lodge Park Honey or pack of comb honey to take home with you. Time: 10am to 4pm. £80 per person (limited to 12 spaces, payable on booking) Participants should wear closed footwear, wellies or boots. Ladies should wear trousers. Other protective clothing will be provided for your use during the day. The visit to the apiary is dependent on good weather; alternative arrangements will be made if wet. Please advise any dietary requests when booking.
