Enjoy this Word on this Monday! “For His Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.” –Romans 8:16, NLT “Are You in Need of Affirmation?” As I begin to pen today’s message, I firmly believe in my heart that ALL of us, at one point or another, has struggled with something we call affirmation or validation. When we are affirmed, it gives us confidence in knowing that someone believes in us. For example, no husband wants to walk around his home and not feel affirmed or validated in being a good husband for doing his best to take care of the home and everything else. Another example is that no wife/mother wants to walk around not being affirmed for the work they do as a wife, as a mother, to make sure that the house runs smoothly and the bills are paid. No person wants to be a part of a group where they are not affirmed for the work they do within this group. As we shift this thing for a moment to the Spirit, being affirmed is a beautiful thing by man, woman, family, organization, church, etc., but if you are in need of affirmation, there is someone that’s ready to affirm you. Care to find out whom? Let us examine Romans 8:16 from the New Living Translation. Here’s the text for those of you who are in need of affirmation: “For His Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.” What the Apostle Paul was ministering to the church at Rome and even us on today is that to be considered God’s child, you need to be affirmed by the Spirit of God, in conjunction with your spirit! In other words, to receive the affirmation of being God’s child, we have to check our spirits daily! We have to check our spirits for jealousy! We have to check our spirits for anger! We have to check our spirits for envy! We have to check our spirits for anything that is not of God! When we know that our spirit is right and it links up with God’s Spirit, we can be affirmed! When you are affirmed in the eyesight of God, it’s the best thing in the world! From this day forward, I encourage all of you (myself included) to say this to yourself on a daily basis: “I am affirmed by the Spirit of God and because I am affirmed by Him, everyone else’s affirmation is secondary! Because of His affirmation, I can walk boldly, I can minister boldly, I can receive His blessings boldly, I can get EVERYTHING that He has for me because I am in sync with His Spirit!” When you know that you have been affirmed by God, no man or devil in Hell can stop you except you! If God gave you the mindset to write a book, do it because He has affirmed it in Heaven! If God gave you the mindset to become a successful entrepreneur, do it because He has affirmed it in Heaven! If God has told you that you will find happiness within a man/woman, it’s coming because He has affirmed it in Heaven! If God has spoken to you about getting the car of your dreams, when you’re financially able, get it because He’s affirmed it in Heaven! In closing, Dr. Joseph Lowery, one of the great leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, addressed us that were there on the National Mall this past weekend by saying this: “We come to Washington to commemorate, but we go back home to agitate.” Today, we commemorate the once-upon-a-time need for affirmation from people, business, etc.; however, we move on to agitate the devil and let him know that we have been affirmed by God through the linking up of our spirits! When that has occurred, the other affirmations will come into focus! Remember, brothers and sisters, the greatest affirmation you need before any other affirmation is the one where God’s Spirit connects with your spirit!
