Enjoyed the middle school curriculum night very much - our 7th - TopicsExpress

Enjoyed the middle school curriculum night very much - our 7th grader is very excited about her new teachers, and I think there is some wonderful energy in the school - hope it will be a great year! Now on to my crusade - I have had a child at PMS continuously since 2001 (our 7th grader is our 4th), two boys and two girls. Our children have had generally wonderful experiences at the school, academically and socially. But I have long thought about the lunch table issue - the round seating for 8 - and I am convinced that it is a bad structural arrangement. It is a recipe for growing cliques. It fosters exclusion and grouping, and causes anxiety amongst children (boys and girls) of all social backgrounds. Ask your child or alum about how they felt about their table and where they sit at lunch, and how it is decided. Contrast this with long tables. They are less attractive and seem unwieldy. But a lonely kid could sit on the end of a long table and have a hope of being pulled into the conversation down the way. At least the child wouldnt feel so all alone. Two kids sitting at the end of a cluster on a long bench dont look so lonely as two on an island table. I strongly believe we should get different tables for our middle school lunchroom. What do you P3rs think?
