Enough is enough. this has to be dealt with. A man was shot twice in the back Saturday afternoon in what police are investigating as a gang-related shooting. Police said that at just after 4 p.m., people in the west-end neighbourhood reported having heard gunshots in the 100 block of Riga Private and saw a dark-coloured vehicle speeding away. Mike, who declined to give his last name, said he was walking his dog near an apartment building on Doane Street, north of Carling Avenue, when he heard two gunshots ring out and saw a man on the ground yelling for help. Mike said he immediately called 911. He said he didn’t see the shooter, whom he thinks was obstructed by the apartment building. “I didn’t see it, because it happened so quickly,” he said. “I called 911 and then I waited for the police to come, and then I went in the house.” Police said a man who “collapsed at the scene” was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. On Sunday morning, police said the injured was in stable condition and remained in hospital. The guns and gangs unit is investigating the incident. It’s the city’s first shooting of 2015, after a record 49 shootings last year. The increased gun violence left local politicians demanding answers and led police to increase staffing in the guns and gangs unit.
