Enough of the blanket statements pandering to a territorial grabbing agenda. How can all Anioma people be Igbo people? That is a big lie from the very pit of hell! The truth of the matter is that the Anioma nation is made up of people from different ethnic groups but the territory happens to be Ibo-speaking. At least 75% of persons that make up the Anioma nation have their ancestral origins from outside Igbo land, only 25% have Igbo ancestral origins. Personally my mother is from the royal family in Ubulu-Uku, Delta State, Nigeria and there has never been any dispute about her ancestors originating from Benin. My father is from Illah, also in Delta State, Nigeria and his ancestral origins have been traced to a village called Onah in Idah, Kogi State, to date the language of Igala is still spoken in my village in Illah. So where lies any Igbo origins in me and the majority of millions of other Anioma citizens whose origins are similar to mine. The fact that citizens of Anioma nation speak variants of Ibo language emanates from the fact that they became victims of geographical location and the predominant language that was available has been the Ibo language which provided the platform for easy communication amongst the different fragmentation of ethnic communities that make up the Anioma nation. I am a son of the soil, born, bred and buttered in Ubulu-Uku and Illah. I have travelled wide and learnt about the history of the Anioma people before political correctness and territorial grabbing got into the equation so I know what I speak about. Some people will readily advance the fact that because Anioma people speak variants of the Ibo language therefore they are Igbos. Thats fundamental flawed because a person can speak a language without necessarily originating from the source of that language. Perfect examples are the Scottish and Irish who predominantly speak English but their Scottish and Irish origins remain undiminished in the process and they work in unison with English people. Others have argued that Anioma people bearing Ibo names instantly catapults them into instant Igboness! Thats another flawed argument because your name does not necessarily define your origins in all cases. I use myself as an example, my first name Jude is Hebrew, does that instantly make me Jewish? Not at all! Even the erstwhile mathematical icon Professor Chike Obi named his children with names from other Nigerian ethnic groups, does that negate their origin? Theres no identity crisis in the Anioma nation except for those that are in denial and succumbing to a certain agenda. The Anioma nation consists of a distinct mixture of groups of people, some of Igbo extraction, but the majority certainly not and these people have succinct cultural values and differences linked to Bini and other ethnic groups and significantly different from the Igbos. I love the Igbos and would rather associate and work with them because we are inextricably linked, but I am very Proudly Anioma and that status quo must remain and be respected! The generality of the Anioma nation must not be tagged Igbos first before they can have their own self-determination.
