Enroute to Kuwait - the gentleman sitting next to me was from Anuradhapura and was going to work as a driver for 2 years in Kuwait. We were talking to each other about family etc and he actually started crying saying the hardest thing he had to do was to leave his 2 year old behind and not seeing him for the next 2 years. Seeing a grown man cry opened my sleepy mind to the sobs I could hear in the entire plane where Sri Lankan men and women were leaving their homes for lack of opportunity and lack of choice for a better livelihood. Hundreds of stories about the atrocities committed to our people abroad but what do we do? Are our embassies equipped to deal with their problems and violations of rights? We talk of the miracle of Asia - do we have a right to do that?? Over to you President Mahinda Rajapaksa
