Entilement for the Over 65’s The stigma of “scrounger or cheat” rings loudly for older people who feel after unfair criticism in the press that OAP’s are a heavy burden on the economy. All of this of course is far from the truth because most people over retirement age earned every penny they were ever given and now is the time to claim your entitlements other than just your government pension. There are hundreds of people living in Torbay who are too proud or don’t want to claim because of what they see on the TV, hear on the radio or read in the press. It’s Time to change your mind. “Attendance Allowance” is aimed to help people with personal care needs. You might be a Carer looking after somebody who is getting AA or DLA this doesn’t mean you can’t have it as well. It’s not one payment per household. If you have care needs of your own you could qualify for Attendance Allowance and it’s a very easy process just apply for a form and fill it in. OK the form they send you is humongous about 58 questions long but if you fill it in right and qualify you could get £53 lower rate and £79.15 higher rate per week tax free. You don’t have to go before a panel and feel that you’re begging. Ray O’Brien at Crossroads Care Torbay can help if you require assistance filling out the form.
