Entries open for 2013 Coronation Double Century (24 July 2013, Cape Town) Entries for the 2013 Coronation Double Century open at 13h00 tomorrow, Thursday, 25 July. The 202km race, which starts and finishes in the historic Karoo town of Swellendam, is a challenging team cycling event renowned for its camaraderie. Celebrating its 21st birthday, the Coronation DC takes place on Saturday, 23 November 2013. Entries are limited to 200 teams, with up to twelve cyclists competing per team. The challenging route passes through areas of the Overberg including Montagu, the Tradouw Pass and the tough 7km Op De Tradouw. David Bellairs, a director of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust (CTCTT), organisers of the Coronation Double Century, says they are delighted to again showcase this popular event. “We believe the Coronation DC has just the right mix of intensity and enjoyment which has helped it grow into one of the top cycling events on the annual cycling calendar, attracting some of the biggest names in South African team cycling.” Karl Leinberger, chief investment officer at Coronation Fund Managers, sponsors of the event says: “We are proud to be associated with this unique event. The key ingredient for success in both our business and the Coronation DC are ultimately teamwork, trust and the ability to go the distance over the long-term. We are pleased to partner with the CTCTT, who over the past seven years of our sponsorship have shown tremendous dedication to creating the best Coronation DC for participants and spectators alike.” For the 2012 event, new rules regarding team support vehicles were introduced. Renée Jordaan, operations director of the CTCTT says that the positive feedback received after last year’s event means they will retain the revised format. “We will keep the measures introduced last year where team support vehicles were not allowed to follow their teams from the start in Swellendam, but had to meet up in Ashton. With more than 2000 riders on the road, keeping cyclists safe is extremely important and we believe these measures will ensure a smooth and safe experience for all involved.” Enter at coronationdc.co.za – a valid credit card is required to pay the R6000 entry fee per team. Only the first 200 paid teams will be accepted and entries will close as soon as this limit has been reached. Teams can be entered as ‘men,’ ‘women,’ or ‘mixed’ teams. Riders can make use of the notice board at coronationdc.co.za/notice-board to help put their teams together. Cyclists are encouraged to enter early to avoid disappointment.
