Envelopment in Normandy: Taking respite in a small Normandy hamlet, a German mechanised Fallschirmjäger platoon consisting of three Hanomags, a Wespe and a motorcycle scout were engaged by US paratrooper’s intent on isolating them from the main German forces. However, with no preparatory bombardment, the first paratrooper squad was ambushed and wiped out by the hidden Wespe. On seeing this, the Forward Observer called in an airstrike, but the Rookie pilot inadvertently took out the M20 Scout Car. Realizing they had encountered a mechanised platoon, the First Lieutenant called for support from an M4A1 Sherman as the remaining US paratroopers worked their way around the left flank of the hamlet. The German Fallschirmjäger platoon deployed their main forces with anti-tank units in the form of a Panzerschreck Team, Panzerfaust and SdKfz 251/10 with a light anti-tank gun. Overwhelmed, the Sherman Tank succumbed to the onslaught, but gave valuable time to the US paratroopers to continue their outflanking maneuver. A second successful airstrike took out the threat from the Waspe, leaving only a Hanomag guarding the bridge. The scout motorcycle was sent out from the hamlet to locate the US paratroopers and assisting in the redeployment of the Fallschirmjäger units to the left flank. However, it was too late to stop the US paratroopers who pushed home their advantage, stormed the bridge and cutoff the remaining German forces.
