Environmental improvements continued this week in south Belfast - TopicsExpress

Environmental improvements continued this week in south Belfast with tree planting taking place in the Holyland area on Stranmillis embankment. The tree planting marked National Tree Planting Week - which runs until 7 December - and is the 2nd phase of the improvement project for the area, which had previously been a magnet for unsightly graffiti. Student volunteers and primary school kids painted a colourful mural in July and now with new railings installed by DRD and the planting of five hornbeam trees, the area has had a makeover. The project was organised by Belfast City Council with support from DRD the Holyland Interagency Group, Belfast Policing and Community Safety Partnerships and Probation Board. Chair of South Belfast DPCSP Councillor, Kate Mullan, and Minister for Regional Development, Danny Kennedy, were on hand to help plant the first of five trees earlier this week.
