Environmental toxicity, heavy metals, pesticides, etc. effect the body in countless ways. Often the effects show up as common ailments such as fatigue, brain fog, excess weight, arthritis, or gets a catchall diagnosis such as fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome. I personally went to many doctors and specialist over a 6 year period, including naturopaths, acupuncturist, osteopathic, and others, while trying to get answers to persistent fatigue and killer migraines. No one, not one of them, every suggested heavy metals or environmental toxicity (even though I owned a furniture mfg. company for 20 years). Thus I began research and training so maybe I could get my own answers. During my second year of MT training I ran a hair test on myself. When the lab report came back it showed uranium right off the chart. It turned out my well had very high levels of uranium and radon which I had been drinking from for the previous ten years. I never would have known without the HMTA testing. The doctors just wanted to give me medications to control the symptoms. I wanted to get to the root cause and correct it on that level. This is one of the main reasons I am so committed to the work I am doing in my practice now. I am very glad to see more and more doctors like Dr. Hyman working with functional integrative medicine. Dr. Hyman is one of the leaders in this field.
