Envy is the art of counting the other fellows blessings instead - TopicsExpress

Envy is the art of counting the other fellows blessings instead of your own, wrote Harold Coffin. Thats why it is thin, because it bites but never eats. Furthermore, it shows a lack of appreciation of ones own self-worth. Take your eyes off others & turn the scanner within. Find the seeds of your envy, clear the old voices & experiences. Put all the energy into building your personal & emotional security. Then you will be the one others envy, & you can remember the pain & reach out to them. All of us have surely something to give. This is precisely the case of the Pharisees & chief priests depicted in the Gospel today. They Wes so envious of the success of Jesus that they cannot accept that he is more credible than them. And thus was born the prophecy, It is better for you that one man should die instead of the people so that the whole nation may not perish. The positive thing about this foretelling was it also meant to gather the dispersed children of God. The death of Jesus will bring about a reconciliation of humanity & the whole of creation. This season of Lent is a good time for us to examine our envious inclinations. Why can we not count our own blessings? Do we not know that envy lurks at the bottom of the human heart like a viper in its hole? Unlike love which looks through a telescope, envy sees through a microscope. Our envy always lasts longer than the happiness of those we envy. Let us therefore remove all forms of envy & develop appreciation for others. - ( Fr. Felix S. Ferrer, SVD ( DWS, Tagaytay City )
