Ephesians 5:18—“Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be ye filled with the Spirit.” I have heard, read, and seen this verse a thousand times before, but on Sunday night when the missionary speaker used it, He spent some time on the second half of this verse. Something that I had never really thought about before. We know we aren’t supposed to be drunk, or get drunk, and I have my own opinions on that verse, and I am sure you have yours. But the main point is that we are to in excess of the Spirit of God. Don’t fill our body up with something useless, or something that won’t last very long. Take a look at the Spirit. Wouldn’t you rather have that in your life? At least we can always count on God to fulfill our needs and desires even when things or people fail us. Matthew 6:33—but seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. By looking to God, we are setting our mind and our affections on things above, things eternal, things useful and lasting, things that are important. May we go about our day today looking and searching and reaching towards those things that are heavenward. May God direct our willing hearts to seek Him.
