Episcopal School of Dallas Technical Director: Technical Director and Instructor Full-Time, 10-Month Academic Position Reports to the Head of Upper School Purpose: The ideal candidate is an outstanding teacher with a deep understanding of and passion for Technical Theatre. He/she enjoys working with students and has experience masterfully guiding them in the development of their artistic skills. The Technical Director is charged with tech directing US productions, teaching Technical Theatre classes, and working closely in collaboration with the US Theatre Director, the MS Theatre teacher and the Fine Arts Department Chair to promote and develop the Theatrical Arts at ESD. The successful candidate will also facilitate involvement in Fine Arts festivals and competitions. Qualifications & Skills: BA or BFA in Theatre; MFA preferred Demonstrated passion for teaching and Theatre Arts Understanding of the design aspects of all areas of technical theatre Extensive knowledge of lighting and sound equipment and theatre safety practices Professional theatre experience preferred Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks simultaneously Proficiency in educational technology and twenty-first century pedagogy Commitment to participate broadly and cheerfully in the life of the school Essential Functions: Teach Technical Theatre course(s), delivering instruction aligned with ESD’s Statement of Educational Philosophy Design and implement technical elements for US and MS theatre productions and showcases yearly Provide integral and varied support, planning, oversight, and communication as an academic advisor Offer significant involvement and/or leadership in an extracurricular capacity as a club advisor or athletic coach. Participate and engage in professional activities and gatherings at team, departmental, divisional, and school-wide levels.
