Equestrianism has dropped from an Olympic category C to D sport. This is a demonstration that it is loosing viewers and means less money and sponsorship. In order to recapture the publics imagination, dressage needs to move up to a higher gear; we need to innovate. Dressage is the most beautiful of equestrian sports but is torn with infighting and dissension, especially in terms of judging. We have to move on from personal opinion to an objective standard that allows us to work together. The IDRC presented an extension of the Dressage Handbook at the Global Dressage Forum. This presentation is attached. The objective of the presentation is to show that simply giving a specific deduction for each potential error can lead to a system that enables judging consistency and transparency. It forms an excellent basis for training of national and international judges and should enable many more judges to reach international and 5* level. It will allow riders and trainers to understand why they lost marks and, more importantly, what they have to improve not to lose them. We need a Code of Points and this is the first and most important step towards that end.
