EYSC in 2014 ? – A REVIEW IN ACTION ------------------------------------------------- What did EYSC do in 2014? Most of you have followed our action and campaigns closely, but to advance our organisational transparency and evaluate our impact, we have made it a habit to summarize the action at the end of each year for the public. The Eritrean Youth Solidarity For Change (EYSC) is one of Eritrea’s most action-oriented opposition groups and it remains fiercely independent and youth-lead. In 2014 EYSC conducted the following action to help end dictatorial oppression in Eritrea and advance democratic values and human rights in Eritrea 1. EYSC started the year by making personal phone calls to about 25 higher military officials in Eritrea reminding them of their duty to continue the goals of Forto. This was backed up with a phone call campaign to random people inside Eritrea. 2. EYSC re-launched its independent Radio after being invited by Medrek to share the same transmission frequency. We broadcast our radio program once a week into Eritrea. 3. EYSC has closely worked with Italian policy makers also in the context of the European Union towards the awareness rising of the Eritrean refugee crisis in Europe and the oppressive situation inside Eritrea. EYSC made statements at two press conferences at the Chamber of Deputies and was invited at the SEL conference, the GEL conference in Firence, and at the ECRE meeting in Brussels. 4. EYSC actively participated in the National Slavery Campaign, presenting at a side event at the Human Rights Council in Geneva and assisting the organisation of a demonstration in front of the UNHCR. 5. EYSC advanced its communication and collaboration with EMDHR and EMC. 6. EYSC organized and held 13 pre-Bologna Summit seminars across Europe and the US. 7. EYSC organized Bologna Summit 2014 in its effort to strengthen the Eritrean opposition camp made up of organizations that believe in an independent, non-violent revolution being born and bread inside Eritrea. It continues to help lead the advancement of several task groups that were formed at the Bologna Summit. 8. EYSC elected a new leadership in brotherly spirit. 9. EYSC continued throughout the year to build its contact base inside Eritrea. 10. EYSC gave interviews to international news outlets including the BBC, SBS Radio Australia, France 24, and a Californian community radio to raise awareness about the situation in Eritrea. 11. EYSC assisted several refugee cases with translation, letters of support, and lobbying. It managed under the umbrella of the Bologna Forum to order mattresses, towels, and soap via the Red Cross for over 200 refugees imprisoned in Lybia. It has now agreed to actively assist Eritreans in Denmark to lobby for the adoption of Eritrean asylum cases. 12. Further, EYSC actively supported our member Luwam Estifanos to present at the One World Conference in Dublin, EYSC presented at the EMDHR workshop in Pretoria, was represented at the EPDP festival in Frankfurt, the demo in Bologna, the EFND in Virginia, and assisted community meetings in the US for the advancement of the UN Commission of Inquiry among other local action items. 13. EYSC defended our leadership and friend Elsa Chirum from been criticized for their wrongdoing. Those who criticize our leadership and our friend Elsa Chirum has been banned from EYSC facebook. This means, that EYSC since its foundation in 2011 has now concluded over 56 action items worldwide. In 2015, EYSC will focus on 4 clear objectives: 1. Strengthening the inside Eritrea resistance 2. Strengthening the Bologna Forum and the opposition camp that believes that democratic change should be driven independently from inside Eritrea 3. Mobilising towards the first two objectives 4. EYSC is not going to tolerate anyone who tries to criticized our leadership and our friend Elsa Chirum. We wish you all strength in the continuation of our struggle towards fake democracy in Eritrea!
