Training wheels, Classrooms & Merlot I know I don’t know it all So I listen like a grad student And ink everything of value that holds my attention I paid for most of my education So it is a privilege to be schooled Compared to the degrees of what I’ve been through So when it makes sense (cents) it goes in the penny bank Until it folds or doubles my worth Show me how you’ve managed So I can avoid your failures Instead of adding them to my own It’s impossible to apply your every crusade But there is room in my Rolodex for references How did you overcome, being overcome? Without it hanging over your head Or you placing everyone beneath you the moment Your flooded point of view became see through I ran into obstacles despite following the rules And doing the right thing So my moral compass has been compromised and bruised And I struggle with wearing the appropriate shoes When it comes down to my desired outcome Compared to the right thing to do How did you find your freedom? When they handcuffed your experiences And sentenced your potential I am nowhere near as numb as I need to be So I need to see what I will gain When they gang up on my pride And I fight back with tact Instead of my fist or my emotions...
