Eric Update. It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Poor Eric lost his fight and passed away Saturday Tea-time exactly 4 weeks since he arrived with us following a horrific attack by a dog. On first examination Eric was believed to have only suffered injury to his tail and bite wounds. Since then the full extent of his injuries were revealed and include;- -Tail de-gloved, leaving only bone and requiring amputation -3 broken bones in two legs requiring 2 major orthopaedic operations lasting over 3 hours each. -3 broken Ribs -Pneumothorax -Sepsis - Lipid embolism As a rescue we have tried our absolute best and I myself have relentlessly nursed Eric around the clock 24 hours a day, every day for 4 weeks other than the time he spent at the vets. The last week was particularly intensive as he was on so much medication, was being tube fed and received a lot of urgent veterinary interventions. Despite this complex case we never stopped fighting for Eric whilst ever he was fighting. Terry who co-manages the rescue along side myself, took several days off work to ensure that Erics needs were completely met and attended all Erics Vet appointments. Many thanks for all the kindness, support and donations received. Contrary to the initial estimate of £500- £600 for Erics treatment that was kindly offered at cost price by Eccleshill Vets 4 Pets ( where Eric was taken to by his finder) the actual cost of treatment has far exceeded this. We consider ourselves to be a transparent rescue and been asked by several donators about Erics care and how much it has actually cost so here is a basic breakdown:- Eccleshill Vets 4 Pets £1500 (approx) Out of hours and Emergency Provision £ 1222 Northcote Vets £200 (approx) We have not yet met the costs of Erics Treatment and will endeavour to settle the accounts at the earliest opportunity however all the vets concerned appreciate that we are currently looking after over 70 cats and kittens too. Once again many many thanks for all the support received and a special thanks to the few veterinary professionals involved that offered their care, compassion and expertise and an extra special thanks to Sophie Rose Stebbings for all you did especially in the last few hours of Erics little life and the support offered after Eric passed away. Rest in Peace Eric. All our love Katie and the Team at BCWR Kittens. xxx
