Eric Update Poor Eric has really had a tough day today. He was admitted following a horrific dog attack on Saturday.His finders believed him to be stray - he also had no collar or chip. Following examination at Eccleshill V4P it was believed that the main injuiry sustained was to the tail- where it had been de-gloved meaning the only part of the tail left was the bone. he also had various deep penetrating puncture wounds throughout his body Surgery was scheduled for this morning for Erics tail to be amputated. Saturday teatime Eric was brought into BCWR Kittens when volunteers noticed that there appeared to be possible injuries to the legs too. We nursed poor Eric over the weekend providing much TLC and pain relief, On re-examination at V4P this morning it was clearly evident that poor Eric also had fractures to the radius and ulna of the right fore leg, open spinal fracture of the tibia of the left hind leg and possible potential nerve damage too in the pelvic area. Today Eric had his tail amputated, extensive xrays and wounds cleaned up. If Eric is showing signs of improvement during this week further surgery to the leg fractures will be planned. Following discharge this evening Eric was readmitted for a brief period as we felt it was dangerous that he hadnt passed urine since Saturday and didnt want to run into difficulties over night. The vet carried out a cysto procedure where a needle is inserted through the skin directly into the bladder to withdraw the urine. - Seconds after this procedure Eric went into shock. After a very quick discussion we opted to get Eric on IV fluids immediately via a drip and the rescue volunteers are nursing him overnight. Eric will be reviewed in the morning...... watch this space for updates...
