Erin Brockovich 48 Hours Later… After the Oil & Gas Industry Report claims Fracking doesnt cause water contamination… poorly designed oil and gas wells do… Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection orders Range Resources to pay a $4.15 million penalty to settle violations related to six Marcellus Shale gas drilling and Fracking Wastewater Impoundments in Washington County, Pennsylvania that contaminated soil and groundwater. So let me get this right, Bad Oil & Gas Wells cause water contamination, and gas drilling and Fracking Wastewater Impoundments do too. But it’s okay… because the actual act of Fracking doesn’t… hummmmmm. The multi-violation consent (nice word for admitting guilt) order will result in the closing of five of the football-field-sized Impoundments and require Range Resources to upgrade its operations at two others to meet more stringent, but as yet to be adopted, state standards.
