Eritrea is one of the worlds worst dictatorships. The country is heavily militarized, totalitarian regime, critics shaking grates and a large portion of the population wants nothing more than to leave the country. A large part of the refugees who drowned in the Mediterranean Sea from Eritrea. The dictatorship in Eritrea is financing the repression including by taxing Eritreans abroad. However, it is not tax such as we are used to in Sweden, but a recovery operation more compared to extortion. Swedish Eritreans may go with their Swedish-end tax statement to the Eritrean Embassy, where officials sitting with a calculator and figure out how much additional tax they should pay. It is about two per cent of the income. Those who do not pay risk having problems, and relatives in the home country may suffer. The collection also means that Swedish Eritreans double taxed, and the money goes into keeping one of the most unscrupulous regimes alive. The UN has imposed sanctions on Eritrea and calls on Member States to halt Eritrean recovery operations. Several countries have already acted, but not Sweden. The Swedish Parliament should act to stop the Eritrean recovery operations in Sweden. The question needs to be examined to see which way is most feasible. The goal must be to stop the blackmail.
