Ernest climbed onto a chair and shifted things around, so that there are some items of each type within reach now. We also did a count. We have 22 cereal-sized bowls, and comparable numbers of soup bowls, and of big plates (of that Swedish kind, that are like very shallow bowls), but not a single small plate or saucer. There is, to our astonishment, only one cheese slicer in the place. I dont know what it is with Swedes and cheese, but the fewest cheese slicers Ive ever encountered in a short-term rental flat up here is four, and some have had so many that I have wondered whether theres some custom, perhaps on some special cheese-related festival day, of each diner beng given his or her own, personal cheese slicer.
