Esau decided to get another wife, a non-Canaanite wife, for himself. He married a descendant of Ishmael. So the son not chosen of Isaac married a descendant of the son not chosen of Abraham. Esau yoked up with one that God told Abraham to cast off. He wasnt doing precisely what God desired; but something like it. It was a change in conduct, but not true repentance. He was operating on his own terms, seeking to win favor, a blessing for himself. People will do this at times — when they realize that their way hasnt been working — and sometimes even as they’re looking for favor, for help, for acceptance — and they’ll make some changes, things that may look similar to repentance — all while still trying to live based on their own terms — no true surrender. They’ll go to church or meetings or they’ll quit certain activities — without surrendering their will to God. They’ll try to have things on their terms. That was Esau — never repenting — stuck in life outside of God’s promises and blessing…. Pastor Doug McClean Genesis 28 He Speaks to the Unworthy ccdeltapa
