Escalation of City Power Problems In an attempt to alleviate the type of power outages that continue for several days or are more complicated to resolve, the City has released the names and contact details of all the City Power Depot Managers in Jozi. However, the Depot Managers cannot field all the calls and emails they receive and so there is a kind of stalemate regarding these escalations. I have spoke to Rakefa Magoro, Depot Manager of the Hursthill Depot, and he advises the following procedure should be followed: 1) Preferably log the outage on the citypower.mobi (smart phones and tablets) or citypower.co.za (click on the ‘Online Fault Logging’ tab located on the bottom left of the page). 2) If the above are not available, you have no power left in your portable devices or are not connected to the internet, then you can use the call centre to log the outage or problem. 011-375-5555 or 0860-562-874. 3) Once you have logged your outage and you have noted down the time you logged it and the reference number, you need to allow City Power to respond to the problem. The City’s own Service Level Agreement Turnaround Times for City Power problems are: - No power to an area/property: 4 hours; - Dangerous situation: Immediately; - Street light not working: 48 hours; - Faulty meter: 7 working days. I would suggest that you allow 6 hours to reconnect you after an outage. 4) If you have not been reconnected or had the problem sorted out, then you should send an SMS or Whatsapp message to the area manager. You must include the following info in your message: - Name - Cell/Tel # - Street address, incl suburb. - Ref # received when logging issue - Date & time you logged it - Short (& I mean short) description of problem As an example, here is what I would send: Tim Truluck, 0836192419, 21B 100th St Parkhurst, CPWEB12345 logged 1 Sep @ 3pm. No power at above address for 2 days. Using the same technique, you can also follow up on problems that have not been resolved properly or for recurring outages. Please note that in some cases where the problem is serious or where there has been cable theft, it can take several days to get proper power back. 5) If all else fails email your councillor – include the same info as you would in an SMS.
