Essay Contest on Domestic and/or Gender-based Violence ________________________________________ Association of Former United Nations Interns (AFUNI) Azerbaijan and Youth Peer Education Network (Y-PEER) Azerbaijan announce an essay contest with the organisational support of Center for Security and Energy Studies, Qafqaz University. Topic: Domestic and/or Gender-based Violence Open to: Young people aged 14-24 years old Prize: selected essays will be published and three winners will be awarded with prizes. Top five participants will be given certificates Deadline: 15 November 2013 Project Description The goal of the project is to raise an awareness of a domestic and/or gender-based violence and gender equality among youth in Azerbaijan, increase youth involvement in domestic violence prevention and promotion of gender equality, non-violence and non-discrimination in society. Prizes • 1st place: New Lenovo A2107 7 Tablet • 2nd place: Amazon Kindle E-book Reader • 3rd place: MP3 Player Top five participants will be certified. Application Requirements • Essays should respond to the following questions: what are the root causes of the domestic and/or gender-based violence and how it is possible to reduce the rate of domestic and/or gender-based violence in Azerbaijan?” • Essays are accepted in English, Russian and Azerbaijani languages • Essays should be sent to afuni.az@gmail with subject “Essay Competition” no later than 15th of November 2013. • References and sources should be clearly mentioned • Essays should include 900 words at a maximum • Applicants should mention their names, surnames, date of birth, place of residence, institutional affiliation, department, e-mail, mobile phone number, position (or job title). • Each participant can submit only one entry. • An essay must be your own original creation not published previously anywhere. Plagiarism without proper referencing will not be accepted. All plagiarized essays will be disqualified. The Selection Committee will review all the eligible essays and the final list of winners will be announced at the end of November 2013.
