Essay by a prominent Russian LGBT activist: "I personally do not understand why a private company producing [vodka] has to bear the consequences of being held responsible for the policy of the Russian state...The same goes for the Olympics. The Russian LGBT community and its major organizations, including GayRussia.Ru, Moscow Pride, Equality, Vyhod and the Russian LGBT Network, dismissed the idea of the boycott but it is still being actively promoted by western activists....The international community would be much more effective if it listened to the activists on the ground, and brought to justice those who are directly involved in stirring up homophobic hysteria in Russia."
