Establishing Liberia case:Siokin Civicus Barsi-Giah and Bill Rogers Reach out for TV interview to Timewarner thats being played 24hr The world must hear our stories The battle against Ebola in West Africa feels like an uphill battle, even for Liberian Olympic team runner Bill Rogers. While he and Liberian Senate candidate Siokin Civicus are well known back home, here in Austin theyre students at Huston Tillotson University. In addition to their studies, they also run the Bill Rogers Foundation to support Ebola relief efforts. For them, this fight is personal. My cousin has just got the Ebola virus in Liberia. None of my family members knew. Nobody knew, but a center, through some friends, had to send me a text message this morning,” Rogers said. Just after the men left our studio, Rogers got word his cousin died. They have no bedding. They have no mattress to lay on,” Rogers said. “They are just in the center and they are starving. The Foundation is collecting supplies like hand sanitizers, bleach products, and face masks along with monetary donations to send overseas. They would take it themselves, but Liberias crumbling economy makes travel almost impossible. There are too many businesses closed down. There are no more air flights coming in like before. Were losing lives. Too many deaths, too many struggles and the sickness is overflowing, Civicus said. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate the number of infected people in Liberia and Sierra Leone could skyrocket to 1.4 million by January if no one steps in to help. I feel bad when parents are feeding their kids and their kids are dying right in front of them,” Rogers said. “We have no ambulance, no medical care, theres nothing. President Obama said Thursday morning the United States is making the fight a priority and building treatment units across West Africa. Were distributing supplies, information kits to hundreds of thousands of families so they can better protect themselves,” Obama said. “Quickly with our partners, well quickly build treatment units across Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leon where thousands will be able to receive care. As the UN pledges to do their part, Rogers is turning to his new home for help. The situation is getting worse and every night people are just dying, so Im appealing to the Austin community for what they can do,” he said. “My foundation hasnt gotten one donation, but I continue to try for the best and never give up. Its all I have. Click here to learn how you can help. - See more at: austin.twcnews/content/news/305070/pains-of-ebola-crisis-reach-central-texas/#sthash.j5NPq37t.dpuf
