Estee Lauder was one of the wealthiest self-made women in America. She built her cosmetics empire on the dream of every woman: to feel beautiful. She established the Estee Lauder Company in 1935. Estee Lauder loved to hold large dinner parties. She enjoyed beautiful people, celebrities, the rich and famous, and could invite them to dine with her at a table that could seat 30 without extensions. She was the subject of a TV documentary in 1985 called Estee Lauder: The Sweet Smell of Success Estee Lauder products remain one of the most popular cosmetics lines. The brand is now recognised in over 120 countries. She died of cardiopulmonary arrest on 26 April 2004. She was aged at least 95, though no-one could confirm her actual date of birth and her family believe that she may even have been two years older. She divided her time between her New York City residence and her Palm Beach estate. She and her husband Joseph Lauder traveled the world over. Her customers included Princess Diana and Princess Grace of Monaco I had the distinct pleasure of meeting her in Palm Beach, Florida. Mrs. Lauder, a very gracious woman, signed her book for me with an inscription inside that reads, To Harvey, for all your happy reading signed Estee Lauder. I also have a signed post card from she and Joe when they were on the isle of Capri.
