Ethan is the two year old son of a Union City police officer. In February of 2014, Ethan was diagnosed with nueroblastoma, an aggressive form of pediatric cancer developing in the nerve tissues and no known relapse cure. Ethan has been battling this horrible disease for six months. It has included extended stays at the hospital for chemotherapy and other treatments. Recently, Ethan is back in the hospital for a 6 week treatment. Ethan’s family will spend most of the time in the hospital with him and make the extended trek to the hospital daily. My fellow officer has run out of banked hours to take time off from work. UCPD officers have been donating their own hours, but it still a hardship for the Martin family to cover all the expenses to make sure that the family can stay with Ethan during this difficult time. TEAM ETHAN: Team Ethan is calling out to all CrossFitters in the greater Bay Area to help support the Martin Family in this time of need. CrossFit of Fremont, Wade’s Army (wadesarmy.org), and the Union City Police Officers Association has organized a charity workout called “Teddy Bear” to raise money for the family. The workout is taking place on 9/14/2014 from 9am until 2pm at CrossFit of Fremont. We will run 10 person heats every 20 minutes. Every participant will get a raffle ticket with an opportunity to win cool donated prizes (I’ll keep you posted about the donated prizes as they start to come in). More raffle tickets will be available to purchase, and there will be an opportunity to purchase Team Ethan t-shirts at the event. All proceeds raised will go to Ethan and the Martin family.
