Euronest Heidi Hautala: Theres a lot of curiosity to Belarus among European politicians. As Belsat_TV reports, there has been a rise of interest to Belarus among European politicians amid the situation in Ukraine. The TV Channel quotes MEP, co-chair of the Euronest parliamentary assembly Heidi Hautala who says that Europe is watching Belarus through the prism of conflict in Ukraine. And theres evidence of interest in talking about Belarus with the European Union again. The EUs interest is also rising in connection with the forthcoming presidential election in Belarus, which is due in autumn. The eternal stumbling blocks in Belarus-EU, however, remain on agenda as usual. The European Union is very much against death penalty and we would like not to see any more executions, and we are also aware that theres a number of political prisoners [in Belarus], - Heidi Hautala says. As Belsat_TV journalist notices, no representative of Belarus itself is currently taking part in the work of Euronests working group on Belarus.
