Europe bans 1,371 toxic chemicals from personal care products. US bans just 11! (Campaign for Safe Cosmetics) • Manufacturers must clean up their products for European distribution, but leave the toxic chemicals in for US.... because it is cheaper, and because no one is stopping them. The people who “oversee” personal care products are a committee of executives from the largest personal care product companies themselves. They make their own rules, post them as “guidelines,” and adherence is optional. (Annie Leonard, Story of Cosmetics) • We can voice our opinions to our politicians, but in this case, the best way to cast our vote is by where we choose to spend our money. If we stop buying toxic products, companies will have to stop making them.
