Europe has more than twice as many wolves (12,000) as the US - TopicsExpress

Europe has more than twice as many wolves (12,000) as the US (5,500). Why are large carnivores fairing so well in Europe compared to the US? This article argues that Europe has relied on a coexistence model, while the US relies on a separation model, which is based on the idea that large predators can only survive in protected areas or wilderness. However, this is not a sustainable management practice as the human population continues to grow along with the urban/wildland interface, and large carnivores refuse to stay within “safe zones” as defined by humans. psychologytoday/blog/dogs-best-friend/201412/saving-the-large-carnivores
