European Champion Marin Defeats Former World Champion On August 28th, 2014, day four of the BWF World Championships, European champion Carolina Marin (NANORAY Z-SPEED, SHBF1NLTD) proved her abilities, defeating 2011 World Champion Wang Yihan of China. Carolina, who is currently world No. 10, dominated the match against former world No. 1 Yihan. Despite losing to Yihan twice in the past, this time around she played a very solid match against her opponent, only allowing her a total of 21 points across the match. Carolina will face No. 8 seed Tai Tzu Ying from Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinal. Aiming for his first ever World Championship title, world No. 1 shuttler Lee Chong Wei (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II LCW, SHB01LTD) advanced to the quarterfinal after defeating Scott Evans by 21-11 21-12. Wearing his all-new, first-ever signature gear, Chong Wei played impressively, winning 11 consecutive points in the second game. He will be challenged by Wang Zhengming from China in the next round. In addition to Chong Wei, young Danish star Viktor Axelsen (ARCSABER 11, SHB-87EX) defeated Vietnam’s vet Tien Minh Nguyen in a straight-set match, 21-16 21-17. “Really happy about my performance earlier today! Can’t wait to step on court for my first quarterfinal at a World Championship tomorrow :)” Viktor commented on his Facebook page. After their matches, both Chong Wei and Viktor had an autograph session, with droves of fans in attendance. In the women’s singles, Japan’s Minatsu Mitani ousted the title holder Ratchanok Intanon (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II, SHBF1NLX) in full sets, 8-21 21-12 21-18. Receiving cheers from their home fans, third-seeded men’s doubles pair Mathias Boe (ARCSABER 11, SHBSC6iEX)/Carsten Mogensen (ARCSABER 11, SHB87LTD) boasted another world class performance, defeating Germany’s Michael Fuchs (VOLTRIC 80, SHBSC6iEX)/Johannes Shoettler (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II, SHB-87EX) with a score of 21-17 21-14.
