European Sovereign Debt Crisis ( FIFA WORLD CUP ) Performance - TopicsExpress

European Sovereign Debt Crisis ( FIFA WORLD CUP ) Performance of European teams- Spain, England, Italy in FIFA World Cup seems to reflect the European Sovereign Debt Crisis. ( Belgium & Switzerland are historically, civilisational neutrals ) Think of how Ronaldos Portugal lost, miserably, that is. Spain the defending champion-never appeared like champions this time-is already out. Spain was destroyed by another terrific European team though, Holland alias Netherlands, that is. So is England over & out. Now Italy after loosing to Costa rica is almost out. France is still there, but appears its own ( that is Platini or Zinadine Zidane ) distant self. FIFA World Cup is turning into Copa Americana. It used to be de facto EUFA cup. These European teams, perhaps like Europe, look tired & lacking in strategy. In the dying moments of the game, when, say Spain or Italy are looking at exit from World Cup,you dont see some fire, some concerted counter attack, some will to score a goal. You actually sense tiredness among them, their body language doesnt inspire fight back. They seem like they dont know what to do & so are just going through the ritual of time. As in the Sovereign Debt Crisis,Germany is the only European team that, again, appears to be comfortably, confidently there. With Holland, you never know when,in spite of all extra ordinary talent, when Holland will produce a lazy, careless, match loosing performance. German game, like German character is very clinical, rational, precise & disciplined. I like German character ( minus Hitler, that is ) but do not exactly enjoy the modernist German approach to football. Its too prose. My personal favourite is Brazil, with post-modern,if I may say, intuitive, hot blooded, spontaneous football. Brazilian football is poetry. It reminds me of Indian hockey at its best-that is,like 3rd century BC. Brazilian players appear to be casual, relaxed, laid back. But ( or may be, so ) they are deadly. They are capable of producing a goal out of nowhere. That possibility keeps their opponents on tenterhooks, may be,making them commit mistakes. These can be generally said to be the features of south-American football, you can call it,the Latin approach. European football sounds like classical music. Brazil,Uruguay,Cost rica, Colombia,( & I remember the Colombian drug cartel, but Shakira saves the day ) ,Argentina ( Messy, there. With Argentina I remember Argentine military dictatorship, Peron the leader & Peron, the Broadway musical & also the movie in which Madona played Eva Peron ) , even Chile ( I am sorry I remember Chilean military dictator General Pinochet & assassination of Salvador Allende ) all , sound like hot Latin music. ( think Jennifer Lopez,Shakira,Ricky Martin....& you will forget all south-American military dictatorships!) Second World War had signalled the end of European domination of the world. Suez Crisis of 1956 effectively ended Britain & France as world powers. This World Cup seems to be shaping up to symbolise the Sovereign Debt Crisis. ENJOY ( My only problem is,there no India around )
