European Union – Mr. Laurent Fabius’s participation in the Foreign Affairs Council (Brussels, January 19, 2015) Mr. Laurent Fabius will participate in the Foreign Affairs Council on January 19 in Brussels in order to discuss the fight against terrorism. In the run-up to the European Council on February 12 and 13 which will be devoted to this issue, the ministers will work on an action plan to strengthen cooperation between member states as well as with third countries. Other issues will also be discussed: - the fight against climate disruption: An update will be provided on the draft action plan put together by the European External Action Service and the Commission to mobilize EU partners in preparation for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference; - Russia: Exchanges are planned in light of recent contacts in the Normandy format and in preparation for the discussions in March on the renewal of sanctions; - Libya: Following the meeting hosted in Geneva by Mr. Bernardino Leon, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, the ministers will review the EU’s contribution and potential support for the UN; - Southern Neighborhood: An exchange with Nabil el-Araby, Secretary General of the Arab League, will provide an opportunity to discuss the Middle East peace process as well as the situation in Iraq and Syria.
