Eustis coach Mike Bowes daughter sets world record Joe Williams | Varsity Blog Orlando Sentinel 1:01 p.m. EST, November 19, 2013 Mike Bowe, Eustis’ boys basketball coach, traveled to Salt Lake City this past weekend to watch his daughter, Brittany, an Ocala resident, compete in the speed-skating World Cup event. He witnessed his daughter establish a world record in the 1,000 meters Sunday. “One of the most intense, exciting events [I’ve] ever watched,” Mike Bowe said. Bowe finished in a time of 1 minute, 12.58 seconds, breaking the previous record of 1:12.68 set last year by Canada’s Christine Nesbitt. “I’ve daydreamed about it. I’ve dreamed in my sleep about it,” Brittany Bowe said on the U.S. speed-skating team’s website. “When it [the world record] becomes a reality and hits you, it’s a dream come true.” Bowe, who graduated from Ocala Trinity Catholic and played basketball at Florida Atlantic University and started on speed-skating on roller blades, will be looking to secure a spot on the Olympic team at the U.S. Olympic trials, Dec. 27-Jan. 1 on the Utah Olympic Oval in Salt Lake City.
